A little about the beads.

Sourcing unique and inspiring materials is my favorite kind of rabbit hole!

My recent obsession started with Miyuki beads.  They are a special kind of Japanese seed bead known for their high quality and consistent shape. The 11/0 Delicas are particularly tiny and still feature in just about every piece.

I begun incorporating other bead materials, sizes, and shapes to add interest, texture, and meaning.  Some are modern and others are thousands of years old.

Isn't it amazing and beautiful to think that beadwork is part of every culture and that the first beads appeared in ancient times over 100,000 years ago?  Historically beads have been used for symbolic purposes, to reflect social status, religious beliefs, and cultural identity.   They've been ritualistic objects used in ceremonies, part of spiritual practices, and even used as currency in some cultures as a form of trade or exchange.

The colors of beads can hold special meanings. Red can symbolize love and affection, blue can represent peace and calmness, green can signify hope and renewal...

Some say that each bead represents a wish, prayer, or positive thought.  Beadwork, amulets, charms, talismans etc..  can be symbols of protection - drawing in positive energy and keeping away negative vibes (we could all use a bit of that!)

Handmade beadwork is more than just jewelry; it’s a way to express yourself, connect with your beliefs, and carry meaningful intentions.  And I'm here for it!
